About

Durham Castle was founded in 1072, some six years after the Norman Conquest of England. Built as a Norman fortress, since the 1830s it has been the home of University College, the foundation college of the University of Durham. Students live in the Castle during University terms; but during vacations offer tours, as well as group accommodation.
