About

Highclere Castle has been home to the Carnarvon family since 1679. Built on an ancient site, the original house was recorded in the Domesday Book. The 5th Earl discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922 and there is an Egyptology exhibition in the castle cellars. Tours of the castle and gardens are available to coach groups. The setting for many TV and film productions, including Downton Abbey.
